It’s hard to have great conversations in social media. What I’m noticing is that very little social technology is actually social. Mostly it’s about the collection and distribution of data. That’s not inherently bad. It’s just that the present and future have so much more to offer.
The pre-order period closed yesterday for the new HRxAnalysts report The 2012 Index of Social Technology in HR & Recruiting. Thanks for your orders (see end of this post for how you can take part in our new report bundle detailed below). New: Today we’re announcing a new pre-order report bundle for $695 that saves […]

091111 Five Must Reads (and a Bonus) 21 Secrets Your Customer Service Reps Would Never Share (until now) It’s ridiculously hard to explain what conversation really means. This short piece appeared on the interbiznet website in 1996 as an introduction to the then forthcoming 1997 Electronic Recruiting Index. It was a part of a chapter on great website design. There was little else available on website design principles at the time. I’m pretty sure it was the first mention of “authenticity” as […]

Thought For The Day:It’s entirely possible that Twitter is an echo chamber that makes adequate assessment impossible. What then? Translating to Tweet (April 23, 2009) I’m learning a great deal about Facebook and Twitter. They are both dynamic information distribution environments. Each day, I pump out a flow of 15 or so items. Bill Kutik calls it “the cell phone news.” Twitter’s format requires you to become adept at writing fortunes for fortune cookies. […]

Best Buy (April 16, 2009) In my conversations with Josh Kahn, it became apparent that Best Buy is doing something really different. Over and over again, I asked him if it felt like being at “Ground Zero”, if he could think of any other company who was organizing along the same lines. While he pointed […]

Buzzword Parade (April 14, 2009) I was talking with a colleague about the buzzword problem in HR Technology. Most of HR is discussed in a jargon that has been slowly evolving since the first Personnel Departments emerged during the depression. The language of job descriptions, merit increases, conflict management, skills and personality assessment all require […]
